New York Fashion Week is in full swing, which means a new era of beauty trends is on the horizon: the lifelike hair, makeup and nail looks on the runways are sure to make an impact in the months to come. No wonder why – the best in the beauty industry are responsible for conceiving individual statements or, in some cases, adorning the shows with subtle glamour. designers such as Pat Bo, Prabal Gurung and Alice & Olivia have already launched their spring/summer 2023 shows –the fashion speaks for itself (and we’ve rounded up the season’s best looks for your viewing pleasure). But we wanted to take a closer look at the beautiful magic happening backstage and behind the scenes.
From side-part revivals (we saw them on Christian Siriano and Tommy Hilfiger) to one-off moments (like Rebecca Minkoff’s dreamy chrome-glazed jelly nails), New York Fashion Week is shaping up to be a pool of beauty inspiration. Here, we’ve gathered the best beauty looks to date – and asked the curators behind the scenes to share their mood boards, go-to products and backstage secrets of NYFW.
Christian Siriano’s Old Hollywood Glamour
It was only fitting that hair and makeup inspired by the 40s and 50s were used for the fashion show at Elizabeth Taylor’s former townhouse. The hairstyle, led by stylist Lacy Redway, was described as a “modern take on the iconic Audrey Hepburn bun” featuring deep side parts and sleek side bangs. This era also inspired Sofia Tilbury to lead the “classic heavy bombshell” look (opens in a new tab) for Charlotte Tilbury. With a feline flick, hydrated skin and a touch of red on the lips, the perfect look exudes old Hollywood glamour.
Soft & Smoky at Pat Bo
“Gunmetal glitter” is the name of Pat Bo’s game. “The girls were wearing very shiny, sexy outfits, so we wanted something to compliment that, not take it away,” says lead makeup artist Charlie Riddle. He makes the skin, brows and lips very natural, drawing all the attention to a soft, smoky eye. The look of both products can be achieved quickly and easily – you only need five minutes.
