I recall that my jeans used to be those skinny-fit ones made from stretch fabric. Before that, I wore low-rise flares, also in stretch fabric (oh, how I miss those days, ha ha). Looking back, I only bought my first pair of Levi’s 501 skinny jeans four years ago. That was probably the first pair of 100% cotton denim I’d owned since childhood.
These jeans were absolutely the catalyst for my love of straight-leg jeans. I wear this style almost daily now and adore them. I remember when I first got my Levi’s 501 slim-fit jeans. Even though they were called slim-fit, the feel was completely different from the thin, stretchy jeans I’d worn before, which were like leggings – I fell in love with them instantly.
These jeans are crafted from selvedge denim produced by Cone Mills in North Carolina, USA. I shan’t dwell on the history of denim (though I could discourse on it for hours), but Cone Mills was the last American denim mill to supply Levi’s before they ceased operations. These trousers are currently the closest match to my pair on the market. They are also 100% cotton, though not selvedge denim.

How to Choose the Right Levi’s 501 Slim Fit Jeans?
To be perfectly honest, I find Levi’s jeans sizing to be somewhat inconsistent across different washes and styles. Their 501 slim-fit jeans come in two fabric options: one non-stretch (100% cotton) and one stretch (99% cotton/1% spandex). Both styles feature a button fly, high-rise waist, and measure approximately 11 inches at the waist.
Most retailers stocking Levi’s jeans offer a standard inseam length of 28 inches, though the official Levi’s website provides additional length options—26 inches, 28 inches, 30 inches, and 32 inches. Moreover, their website frequently runs promotions, making it my preferred purchasing channel. Standing at 5ft 7in (approximately 170cm), I own three pairs of Levi’s jeans with a 28-inch inseam. The length falls just above my ankles, which is my preferred fit. I also purchased a pair with a 30-inch inseam, where the hem rests on top of my foot, neatly covering my ankles.
The Levi’s 501 slim-fit jeans are a timeless classic, hence the brand continually introduces new washes. You’ll find white, black, light, medium, and dark washes, alongside clean and distressed finishes.
Levi’s 501 Slim Fit Jeans: Sturdy 100% Cotton Denim
I bought the 100% cotton Levi’s 501 Slim Fit Jeans, deliberately sizing up by one size. These trousers feel quite stiff initially but soften slightly with wear. My usual size wouldn’t fasten, hence the larger fit. The extra size does provide a very comfortable, relaxed feel. I’d recommend checking reviews for your desired style and wash effect before purchasing.
Levi’s 501 Slim Fit Jeans: Stretch fabric, 99% cotton/1% spandex denim
I purchased three pairs of Levi’s 501 stretch slim-fit jeans in different washes, each in my usual size. They stretch slightly with wear but not excessively. If you’re between sizes and prefer a slim fit, I’d recommend sizing down. If your usual size is fairly standard, close to the upper end of your typical range, or if you prefer a looser fit, I’d advise sticking to your regular size. These stretch jeans are still crafted from substantial denim with cotton as the primary component, so they retain the structured look of rigid jeans while offering some stretch and comfort, making them more forgiving in terms of sizing.
These jeans are a stretch style with a lovely washed effect, featuring a 30-inch inseam. As you can see, they are full length on me. I’ve paired them with a cosy textured jumper and high-top trainers. The end result is a relaxed, everyday outfit. If it’s chilly when heading out, I’ll throw on my black long quilted coat over the top.
These jeans are a stretch style with a beautiful wash effect and an inseam length of 76 cm. As you can see, they are floor-length on me. I paired them with a cozy knit sweater and high-top sneakers. The result is a casual outfit for every day. If it’s cool when I go out, I throw my black long quilted coat over it.
These are the same jeans, but this time paired with Dr. Martens boots. As you can see, this jeans length also works well with ankle boots. Although the ankles are completely covered, the boots are fully visible—I really like this effect.
3.) Shirt jacket + Levi’s 501 slim-fit jeans + T-shirt + sneakers

These jeans are the same pair worn with the pink sweater in the cover photo. They’re made of 100% cotton (no stretch) selvedge denim. I bought them one size up, and this pair is 28 inches in length. I love the vintage wash effect and the distressed knees on these jeans. I styled them with socks, white sneakers, a white T-shirt, and a neutral-toned shirt jacket. I enjoy pairing jeans with neutral pieces—it always creates a harmonious look.
