We all know the tailoring clichés about Copenhagen shoppers who prefer minimalism or French women who love classic pieces, but how much does where you live affect how you look? In a new series, we asked some of our favorite fashion influencers how they define their style and in what ways their hometown might be responsible for it.
This month, we look at Milan and ask some of the Italian city’s most stylish residents what the city really means to fashion. Here’s what Giulia Tordini, Erika Boldrin, Valentina Marzullo, Chiara Capitani and Niki Wu had to say on the topic.
Giulia Todini
How would you describe your style in three words?
“Feminine, comfortable and timeless.”
What is your go-to brand?
“Vegan leather Nanushka, knitwear Khaite, denim Redone, The Attico dresses, Amina Muaddi heels, Toteme boots, Bottega Veneta handbags and of course Leda Madera jewelry.”
What is unique about living in Milan and how has this influenced your style?
“For me, Milan is the perfect compromise between the metropolis and the countryside. The city is active, well organized and growing fast – it constantly offers art and culture. That makes me feel confident. If only we could have the sea too.”
What do you like most about the Milanese style?
“The Milanese style is very recognizable; it brings together a duality of boldness and discretion. The city’s architecture is an amazing blend of different styles and architectural periods, making it eclectic and surprising. It’s a perfectly ordered chaos.”
