Guerlain x Maison Matisse Artistic Collaboration

by

The quintessential “happy painter” and master of color, Henri Matisse is one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. In collaboration with Maison Matisse (founded by Jean-Matthieu Matisse, one of the painter’s great-grandsons), Guerlain celebrates the art of happiness with extraordinary works and precious limited-edition collections inspired by Matisse’s color palette.

Since the brand was founded in 1828, Guerlain has had a close relationship with art. Over the years, generations of Guerlain perfumers have found inspiration from the avant-garde artists of their time to enhance their creations. Since the 2005 partnership with Guerlain Haute Parfumerie, this connection has become even stronger and more tangible, including two extraordinary celebrations of the art of perfumery. First, the House launched the Exceptional Creations collection, which once again reinforces its support for contemporary artists and artisans by commissioning precious, numbered limited edition designs. The second is the L’Art & La Matière collection, a fascinating perfumery laboratory where Guerlain perfumers find creative inspiration in the emotions inspired by works of art. Thanks to their talent and expertise, the

Guerlain invited Maison Matisse for its first collaboration to pay homage to the art of happiness by paying tribute to the master of color with two creations inspired by two of the artist’s paintings, which have become full-fledged works of art in their own right.

“We are very fortunate that Maison Matisse has shown their trust in us with these new works. Our partnership is based on shared values of excellence, exacting standards and elegance, coupled with a common love of beauty, nature and art,” said Ann-Caroline Prazan, Guerlain’s Director of Arts, Culture and Heritage.

Jean-Matthieu Matisse, founder of Maison Matisse, noted: “My great-grandfather’s work was multi-sensory, his world was full of plants and flowers, and they became recurring themes in his work. As a result, there are countless compelling links between his work and the artistry of Guerlain fragrances. This is why we are delighted to begin this collaboration, not least because we share the same values, exacting standards, respect for precision and a love of color. This celebration of happiness is a beautiful initiative and a first for Maison Matisse.”
